Prayer Request

I have a prayer request I'd like to let you all know about. My mom was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy this past weekend. If I understand correctly, Bell's is a viral thing that needs to run it's course and this may last from 3-6 months.

She's on a few medications to help this clear up quicker. Mom has said nothing hurts her and she doesn't "feel" sick in anyway. Mostly, her eye is bothersome as she's unable to close her left eyelid. She has salve to keep her eye hydrated and she's to tape it closed at bedtime. Also, eating or drinking is challenging due to the paralysis on that side. I believe it's much like having Novocaine at the dentist. She doesn't taste anything on that side of her mouth either.

My mom's name is Barbara and if you've a chance I would appreciate prayer that the virus could run it's course quickly. Mom seems to be in great spirits over the whole thing and, as I mentioned, she doesn't feel sick nor is she uncomfortable. I think this is just a bothersome thing that probably makes her family more upset than it does herself.

Thank you, blog friends.

I am sorry Katie. Do you know if she has seen a holistic doctor at all? he could probably clear it up much quicker than that. There might be an underlying problem and this is the symptom. There is a great guy in River Falls who could probably help her, and I am sure he would get her in quick for an emergency/after hours appointment....Let me know if you want me to give him a call, I could refer her. We'll be praying~

Thank you very much, we appreciate the prayers. It's so nice to know that all a blogger has to do is mention a prayer request and *bam* Christians start praying. Thank you.

Laura, thank you for the info. My mom reads this blog (and sometimes even leaves comments :) ) so I'll leave the choice up to her. Thank you for caring.

I want to thank everyone for the prayers and good wishes and all the suggestions. Lauralynn mentioned holistic doctor, Katie, Dr. McCabe, and Matthew acupucture. I am a bit sacred to tell the truth to try any of these, (I did read up on the acupucture). Sacred, I guess, because this whole Bell's Palsy diagnosis is such a shock. Good news tho, it wasn't a stroke. So thank ful for that, I will just have to look and sound a little different until it goes away. God Bless!

Katie,
If your Mom is interested, there are many things that a chiropractor can do for Bell's Palsey, and also acupuncture. It is self-resolving, which means it will eventually go away on its own, but if you treat it with chiropractic and/or acupunture, research has shown that it will clear up quicker, and there can be less residual effects. Treating the nerve as quickly as possible is the way to go. A chiropractor would do normal adjustments to enhance/stimulate the nervous system's ability to heal, and acupuncture would specifically target flow to this nerve. I highly recommend both, and have seen the effects first-hand in patients.

Above all, I am praying for her healing regardless.

I'm so sorry honey!! You better believe I will be praying for your mom. Chad's cousin has that and she even had it on her wedding day. Very uncomfortagble, but totally manageable (with a great support system of course) I wonder how God is using this in her life???

Many blessings to you all-
Amanda
